Recovering After Ultrasound Guided Injections
Ultrasound guided joint injections have become a popular treatment option for people who are experiencing chronic joint pain. This isn’t really surprising since this type of treatment has been proven to be effective, especially for patients who haven’t seen any improvements with oral medications and physical therapy. However, getting ultrasound guided injections isn’t just about booking an appointment with the right physician! You also have to take the right steps to ensure that you’ll recover quickly and properly after your treatment.
Your physician will discuss your post-treatment plan with you during your appointment, so there’s no need to worry about it. Your recovery plan will most likely include the following:
Rest the affected joint.
Before scheduling your appointment, you’ll want to ensure that your calendar is free at least two days after you get your injection. This is because you’ll have to reduce the number of movements the affected joint makes for around 24 to 48 hours. By taking the time to rest, you’ll get the maximum benefit from your treatment and experience the pain relief that you seek.
Observe your pain levels.
You might feel an increase in your pain level at the affected area around 12 to 48 hours after you get your injection. There’s no need to worry, though since this is totally normal. Remember: the needle that’s used during the injection can increase the inflammation in your joint, which can cause you to feel more pain. If this happens, you can take your regular pain medication and apply ice to the affected joint to decrease your discomfort. However, if taking these steps doesn’t make the pain subside, don’t hesitate to call your physician.
Follow the tips above to recover quickly after your ultrasound guided joint injection treatment.
